Escaping into the Museum video documentation
From September 11 to October 16, 2021, the 11th Seoul Mediacity Biennale One Escape at a time held a children’s workshop Escaping into the Museum both online and onsite at the Seoul Museum of Art’s exhibition halls and lecture rooms.
Targeted at students in grades 4 to 6, the workshop aimed to help young audiences engage with the Biennale’s artworks from their own perspectives. It was designed to challenge the common perception that contemporary art is too difficult or inaccessible for children, instead encouraging diverse interpretations and broader accessibility.
Through activities such as discussion, play, creation, and storytelling, participants were invited to reimagine familiar objects and spaces in unfamiliar ways and to explore how individual and collective viewpoints shape our understanding of the world. The workshop was conducted in three sessions; the first two were held online. For these, specially designed kits were mailed to participants, allowing them to view the artworks and then engage in shadow play using light in a project gallery inspired by the pieces.
