Online Opening

This is the video documentation of the online opening ceremony of the 11th Seoul Mediacity Biennale One Escape at a time, held on September 7, 2021, at the Seoul Museum of Art and online. After a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the Biennale returned to present 58 works by 41 artists and collectives from Korea and abroad, on view until November 21.
The theme of this edition, “escapism,” explored the ways in which individuals transcend the constraints of reality, linking personal desires with the imagination of art and popular culture. The imagination that moved beyond reality fostered empathy with others and opened new perspectives on how to view the world. The Biennale examined the positive aspects of escapism and, based on this, proposed broader forms of social solidarity.
