The image in her work assumes an instant, shocking moment in which something that initially looks like a bunch of “flowers” is in fact a monstrous mass of insects. Yoo Hye-Jin says that while she was daydreaming about a virtual space called “Virtual Eden”, an image of something that symbolized a “flower” made up of unusually large flies occurred to her. Thus, creating a contradictory image.
An image or belief that seems absolute could be nothing but an illusion, like the imaginary flowers. However, the paradise or utopia within our limited space-time and perception is inherent in the contradiction of such reality. Yoo’s works exceeds the question of space or phenomena of reality and takes them as an alien world that is sacred and furthermore even fearsome. The artist seems to perceive the spacio-temporal reality as a virtual Eden from a new perspective. Yoo imagines to wandering the world as a total stranger and the “flowers” she discovers signify something that emerges from paradise - the world of endless contradictions and illusions.
