Installation to the sense of sight, Sound performance to the sense of hearing Being living in Tokyo, Japan, I see the noisy cityscape as an accumulation of fluid phenomena that keep moving and changing, not something flat and similar. What I try to approach by my installation and sound performance is to realize my perception of daily life in the city. It is artificial but also natural thing for me, and coexists in my expression.
OPTRON SOUND SYSTEM is an instrument that outputs amplified noises generated by the fluorescent lights, as well as machinery of visual arts. It works on the viewer’s brain through eyeballs and eardrums to make him/her draw images directly in the brain by wave motions. The red, green and blue fl-lights show the viewer how we recognize the “color of light”, which is usually neglected. I am self-confident about this “bare truth” although it may sound rather barbarous.
Both light and sound are wave motion, and the flicker or the accent of them means time for us, not image. Images are created when time, sight or sound would be recognized. Those time, sight and hearing that create shapes and sounds should not be subordinated to a concept. I know that it would never effect the viewer as I meant. I just hope that the viewer would find a joy in eyes, ears or brain, by facing my work.
