Started as an application concept for children’s learning about constellations, Stella is an experiment in various alternative interaction methods. By applying the concept of tangible interaction, Lee Tae-Il designed the work to enable physical manipulation of various elements and functions of the application, encouraging active participation by children. Developed from its earlier approach, Stella Version 2 (2002) adopts more advanced and diverse tangible interaction methods.
The stage is a space where various functional elements of Stella are manipulated, as well as a space that prepares the content environment. The manipulative devices are physical elements corresponding to the functional elements. This interactive work allows users to learn about constellations. In addition, various handlers—including star handler, info handler, and zoom and time handler—are used to manipulate each cursor, display detailed information on each constellation, and set the date and time, respectively.
