The Experience of the Fliehkraft

2011

Till Nowak’s digital creations revive his childhood fascinations with amusement rides and theme parks. The Experience of the Fliehkraft comprise of seven video-clips and drawings in which various colossal robotic machines are decorated like toys and offer anti-gravity therapy. Amusement rides symbolize an escape from reality in search of happiness and freedom through the use of a digital medium. ‘Fliehkraft’, the German word for ‘Centrigual Force’ contains the German words ‘Flieh’ (escape) and Kraft (power). While these machines entertain us, they also represent an ironical stance on visual media. Nowak digitally manipulated and enhanced the original footage which he originally recorded with a simple amateur camera. Similarly, the seven construction plans are created independently from the videos and do not reveal real technical information. Instead, these drawings raise questions about reality, and offer a parody of our civilization.
