“Between 0 and 1… then art eventually vanishes. At the same time of vanishing and reaching 0, it goes back to 1, 2, and 3-it departs in the form of art again. I found a certain point where art vanishes and then arises…With this perspective, a realm of thinking unfolds where one perceives the form of art in his/her time, infers or criticizes the new ideas from a broader angle - a very small thought. I can tell this opens a ground for fresh, free, and organic thinking.” Rim Dong Sik, excerpts from the Rise Up Rim Dong Sik (Seoul Museum of Art, 2020)

Yo Daham participated in a project to reinterpret Rim Dong Sik's collection at the SeMA Art Archives, exploring Rim’s artistic reasoning and confirming his familiarity with responsive and interchangeable corporeality. The artist focused on the unpredictable movements of balloons due to the influence of surrounding conditions such as wind, air pressure, temperature and human touch, while learning how to assimilate and communicate with the flow of nature alongside children at Jeju Daejeonggol Regional Children's Center. When a balloon is paired with a person amid the ever-changing weather of Jeju Island, what types of movements will they encounter?

Yo Daham (b. 1984, Seoul, Jeju)

Yo Daham observes the displacement of all things—such as water, steam and ice—that consist of the same substance but appear in different states, and takes the question of why and how we live together as the subject of her work. His artworks take shape in a variety of media and she also directs or takes part in performances. In addition to her solo exhibition Gas Liquid Solid (Art Space Pool, 2019), Yo participated in the planning and performance of CONFITE PUNO (2017) in Argentina and has presented her works in group exhibitions at the Arko Art Museum and the Seoul Museum of Art. He was also a finalist for the Hermès Foundation Art Award in 2014 and was an artist-in-residence at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art’s Goyang Residency in 2019.
