In this re-edited three-channel video of City Waterfall, repeated scenes of waterfalls and flushing toilets suggest the common conditions of a constantly changing city as well as our own existence and mortality. Diverse footage is stitched together with rapid cross-cuts, including a person's eyes and mouth, a scene from popular culture, the footsteps of a crowd, a dystopian cityscape, an upside-down market scene, a finger just about to press a button, a factory machine and a peaceful underwater ecosystem. This work was originally unveiled at the first SEOUL in MEDIA 1988-2002 (1996), an exhibition that deeply contemplated the rapidly evolving urban and media environment, invited new generations and media to the center of the art system and revealed the need for new art experiences through the combination of art and daily life.
