A series of Koh Jeong-Ah’s works including Pond can be described as her personal interpretation of body and nature. As a woman belonging to the video generation, she grew up with Hollywood’s glamorous movies, animations, and MTV, which shaped and influenced her sensibility. This sensibility of her generation is expressed with imagination as media indirectly combines with the body as reality.
Most of the images of nature in her mind are shaped by the wave of technology that she embraces. The images of dented body parts filled with liquid that remind us of body fluid are shown unnaturally magnified on the flickering monitors on the floor. A pond-like image, which is made of these body parts, looks like an artificial light at first and then discloses the substance as a body when the viewers approach it. The metaphorical quality of her video installation serves as a means of communication and intimate interaction between the artist and viewers.
