Jeon Joon was born in Busan and studied Fine Arts at Dong-Eui University and at Chelsea College of Arts in London. He has presented both solo and duo exhibitions (with Moon Kyungwon) at major institutions including the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa (2022), MMCA Hyundai Motor Series, Korea (2021), Tate Liverpool (2018-19), the Korean Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, Migros Museum of Contemporary Art, Switzerland (2015), the Art Institute of Chicago (2013), SCAI The Bathhouse, Tokyo (2009), Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, Paris (2008), and Perry Rubenstein Gallery, New York (2007).
His work has also been featured in numerous international exhibitions, including Art Basel Unlimited (2023), Noor Riyadh (2022-23), Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Torino (2017), Elektra Biennale, Montreal (2016), Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale (2014), Singapore Art Biennale (2013), Gwangju Biennale and DOCUMENTA 13, Kassel (2012), Yokohama Triennale (2011), LACMA and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (2009), Espace Louis Vuitton, Paris (2008), and Mori Art Museum, Tokyo (2007).
He is the recipient of several major awards, including the Gwangju Bank Prize at the Gwangju Biennale (2004), the Grand Prize at the Ljubljana Biennial of Graphic Arts (2007), the Grand Prize, Noon Award, at the Gwangju Biennale (2012), The 1st Korea Artist Prize, co-organized by the National Museum of Modern & Contemporary Art, Korea and the SBS Foundation (2012), the Multitude Art Prize (2013), and the Kim Sechoong Sculpture Award (2024).
