This event is a public program organized in conjunction with the artwork Hacking territory by kook+, a participating artist group in the 10th Seoul Mediacity Biennale Eu Zên.

kook+ is a temporary collective group that was organized in December 2017 under the initiative of an artist named Chankook Park with the intention of exploring the members’ different imaginaries and thoughts about physical territories (e.g. nation), the operational system of such territories, and other conditions of the urban space, and putting those ideas into practice. kook+ is comprised of the DRP (Dongdaemun Rooftop Paradise), architects, managers of IT companies, artists, curators, game makers (programmers), and researchers of blockchain. The membership is so flexible that groups within maker culture or asset management consultants collaborate with the group when necessary.

The purpose of the project titled Hacking territory is to create a new notion of territory on the conditions of a declining urban space, free from any existing national urban policies or operational systems. The specific practices within this project include the research and tour of two small cities of provinces that are in the process of decaying and the long-term rent or purchasing of vacant unused houses. The participants pursue research and implement other practices independently; they set up and operate individual labs that fit the research situations in order to establish a flexible community that reflects fluid and nomadic living conditions.

The presentation at the biennale encapsulates an additional aspect of the entire project. kook+ provides the audience with an opportunity to experience their project in progress by representing the studio processes, the tour programs, the lab, the architecture design studio, the investment office, and the information center.
