photography
Since its emergence in the 19th century, photography has become a crucial medium that challenges traditional concepts and values of art, resulting from its potential for mass consumption and reproduction. In the 1930s, Walter Benjamin explained in A Short History of Photography that photography expresses human subjects entangled in networks of social relations, adding that the relationship between photography and human subjects calls for a return to contemporary authenticity. SMB has persistently focused on photography as a medium that most rapidly reflects and anticipates changes in contemporary media beyond its representational purview, while also serving as a means of documenting various SMB activities including events, exhibitions, and programs.
