Brice Dellsperger’s Body Double series of videos remakes popular scenes from cult movies either with himself or using amateur actors. Body Double 3 recreates a scene from the 1984 Brian De Palma film that provides its namesake. The original movie by De Palma is itself a direct homage to Alfred Hitchcock, incorporating kitsch and subcultural elements with plot lines and themes taken straight from Rear Window (1954) and Vertigo (1958). Body Double 3 employs the same homage strategy devised by De Palma, but with a twist on cinematic norms of gender representation. Alongside the original audio and spinning camera movements, the artist appears in drag to take on the role of the heroine and shares a passionate kiss with her male counterpart. As in the original, the kiss is superimposed on a beach backdrop, to a jubilant yet jolting effect.
