The artist has created this work looking at this moment of transition in the space and context of an artwork. The fading of the film era and increased use of developments in moving image technology have led to the gradual disappearance of physical materials that can be seen and touched, from celluloid film to magnetic tapes and now digital files. The moving image on 35mm film consists of three scenes; a scene of a planet floating in space, a scene of a planet’s surface with mountains and an uncanny landscape, and a close-up scene of a liquid substance, which looks as if it might belong to another universe. The film pays homage to sci-fi film techniques in the 1960s and 1970s when filmmakers experimented with “Organic Effects” to depict life in space as well as American experimental filmmakers who explored film media as a conceptual art form.
