Packetbrücke

2012

Gordan Savicic and Bengt Sjölén impose and apply the assumed(computed-virtual) reality within different realms to discuss its potential future and exploit. They exploit the existing order of new media and information technology, and explore effects of new media on subjectivity and society. In Packetbrücke, everyday surrounding Wi-fi networks are reshuffled to disorientate the designated system of the everyday surrounding network infrastructure. Consisting of a sender and receiver, both parts of Packetbrücke resulted from the idea of replaying an ephemeral situation within a given network topology. The device resembles a sort of performance where in the spectacle lies in its hidden architectural manifestation. Paradoxically, its manifestation through a sculpture(comprised of an excessive use of ethernet cables) emphasizes its topological dependence on the wired network topology. By reallocating the designated infrastructure to another, they seize control of the network system.
