Known as an MTV ‘guru,’ Åkerlund is considered one of the most experienced and successful music video directors from Sweden. His Grammy-winning music video for Madonna’s Ray of Light remains his most famous work. His early experience as a musician in Swedish bands informs his talent for combining advertising images through rapid cuts. This artwork uses extreme close-ups of eyes to coldly and grotesquely capture the disconnection and absence of communication in contemporary life.
