This video unfolds a historical narrative surrounding the Seoul 600-Year Memorial Hall(former Gyeonghuigung Annex), a structure that was inaugurated in 1994 in commemmorating of Seoul’s 600-year history as a nation’s capital and served as the main exhibit hall of the Seoul Museum of Art until 2002. Accompanying video footage of the exterior of an old building, as well as the neglected landscape surrounding it, is a voiceover explaining the background of the building’s creation. Ultimately, the camera illuminates the interior of this space. The camera’s movement is based on the layout of artworks at the 2nd SEOUL in MEDIA FOOD, CLOTHING, SHELTER exhibition that was held in this venue. Ending with footage of the building’s demolition, the video questions the success or failure of urban history suffusing this iconic building while subversively implicating the potential of recreating imagery.
