This exhibition presents Choi’s best-known work, the World Underground Project series which have been ongoing since 1986. For this project. Choi buried durable Japanese papers under the ground of many countries around the world. Several years after the burial, the artist excavated the decay to observe the interrelation between time and space. Whilst residing in Japan, she was invited to a solo exhibition entitled Lucie and her Time at the Plateau Gallery in 2007 (formerly known as the Rodin Gallery, Seoul) This exhibition comprised of art works that contemplated archaeological explorations of time and the cycle of life and death. Choi has been working with sound, video, film, photography as well as new media through combining her interest in ‘Ikebana’, a traditional Japanese practice of flower arrangement. In 2010, her solo exhibition at the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art at the Forests of Asoka took on the theme of a ‘tree’ and created a space for deep meditation. Mostly recently, she has extended her practice that attempts to connect with the ‘sky’ For Mediacity Seoul 2012, Choi presents a new project that celebrates the ‘sky”.
