DIS
DIS is a New York-based collective formed in 2010 by Lauren Boyle, Solomon Chase, Marco Roso, and David Toro, along with other collaborators. They often work with moving images in the digital realm, appropriating visual and narrative strategies from TV, advertising, fashion, and other forms of popular culture in an ironic manner to examine pressing economic, social, and political issues. Since launching the online magazine DIS Magazine in 2010, DIS has gone on to establish the stock image agency DISimages, the retail platform DISown, and dis.art, an “edutainment” platform for disseminating discussions on contemporary culture and politics to the wider public. DIS participated in the New Museum Triennial in New York in 2015, and were artistic directors of the 9th Berlin Biennale in 2016. Solo exhibitions include the de Young Museum, San Francisco (2017), and the Baltimore Museum of Art (2018–19).
