Lim Giong is an experimental musician and film composer whose activities also include producing and live performances. Lim released his pop-rock debut album Marching Forward in 1999, cementing his role in the New Taiwanese Song movement that emerged alongside Taiwan’s democratization process. He has since shifted his focus to writing and producing experimental music that combines traditional scales with electric sounds. Internationally, he is perhaps best known for his music for films including Hou’s Millennium Mambo (2001) and The Assassin (2015), Jia Zhangke’s Still Life (2006), and Bi Gan’s Long Day’s Journey into Night (2018). Lim’s numerous best original film score awards include those from the Asian Film Awards, the Golden Horse Awards, and Film Fest Gent. He also received the Cannes Soundtrack Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015 for his work on The Assassin, and the Jecheon Asia Film Music Honorary Award at the Jecheon International Music and Film Festival in 2019.
