Sarah Lai

Sarah Lai is a painter who makes installations that feature her paintings alongside commonplace objects and other decorative elements. Often depicting familiar landscapes, scenes, and subjects, her paintings repurpose motifs from different media and culture outlets to evoke specific eras and moods. The atmospheres Lai creates through her installations hint at how particular emotions and memories are conveyed by the environments and structures we inhabit. Lai graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with an MFA in Fine Arts in 2016. In 2015 she produced a solo presentation for the alternative art space Para Site at Art Basel Hong Kong. She has participated in group exhibitions at international institutions and art spaces, including the CAFA Art Museum, Beijing (2015); 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, Sydney (2017); and the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art, Manchester (2017).
