Wang Haiyang
Utilizing mediums including painting, drawing, video, animation, and installation, Wang Haiyang reveals and examines the complex inner worlds of sexual desire and human psychology through a comical, irreverent, and critical lens. Wang’s work often transforms and/or deconstructs ideas and forms of the body, projecting a surreal and deviant quality that challenges social norms of sexual and gender identity and body politics. Wang received his BFA from the Central Academy of Fine Art, Beijing, in 2008. He has held solo exhibitions and projects at institutions including the Minsheng Art Museum, Shanghai (2016); the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing (2016); and OCAT Xi’an (2017). His work has been featured in group exhibitions at international venues including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Toronto (2019) and the Museu Oscar Niemeyer, Curitiba (2017). In 2012, Wang won the Silver Dove at the 55th DOK Leipzig Film Festival for his animation Double Fikret (2012).
