Point Animation

2001

A ‘point’ is not usually recognized as a completed form, although it is the most fundamental element of form.
The significance of Kang Ju-Won’s work lies in his attempt to give form to the points themselves rather than creating a form through the arrangement and movement of points. This idea may sound contradictory because, theoretically, a point cannot have a form. In fact, a point is defined more by size and color than by form, typically appearing as a small circle. He successfully creates new forms through the movement and changing colors of these small circles used as points, and then dissolves them. He also produces the moiré effect by overlapping or rotating points placed at regular intervals, and sometimes makes letterforms appear by disrupting their arrangement.
