Mikhail Karikis

Mikhail Karikis is an award-winning Greek-British artist living between Lisbon and London working with moving image, sound, performance and other media. His work is created through collaborations with communities and focuses on sociopolitical themes. It is presented in leading museums, contemporary art biennials, music and theatre stages including at 54th Venice Biennale, (2011), IT; Manifesta 9, Ghenk, (2012); 19th Biennale of Sydney, (2014); Kochi-Muziris Biennale, IN, (2016); SeMA MediaCity Seoul, KR (2014); British Art Show 8 (2016-7); 2nd Riga International Biennale of Contemporary Art, LV (2020), 2nd Saitama Triennale(2023), JP. He has had solo exhibitions at Casino Luxembourg Forum d’Arte Contemporain, LU (2017); TATE St Ives, UK (2019); TATE Liverpool, UK (2020); HOME Manchester, UK (2024); Gulbenkian Centro de Arte Moderna, Lisbon, PT (2025). Recent major career retrospective exhibitions of his work have been presented at Kunstmuseum St Gallen, CH (2025) and the National Museum of Contemporary Art EMST, Athens, GR (2023). In 2024, Karikis received Britain’s largest award for artists by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
