Rafael Queneditt Morales studied sculpture and printmaking at the Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes San Alejandro in Havana. Working after graduation at the Cuban National Archive, the artist became secretary to the historian Julio Le Riverend, allowing him to deepen his understanding of the ties linking the Antilles to the continent of Africa. He was a founding member of Grupo Antillano, a group of artists who sought to highlight the African roots of Cuban identity, and used his practice to “dig deeper into the study of Afro-Cuban culture so that it will be better understood by the people.”
