DESTROY THE CODES

Hong Jinhwon’s DESTROY THE CODES is an interactive online subscription website. As an alternative service, it allows users to search for visual contents that tend to be ignored by commercial platforms, and also to post their own content. This project is Hong’s rejoinder to the control video streaming sites such as YouTube exert over their users’ worldviews and values.

Criticizing the algorithms and user interfaces of big, profit-seeking platforms as tools for furthering “visual power,” the artist has created his own disruptive, alternative visual subscription service. Open for subscription along with the Biennale’s opening, users can start receiving a daily video via email from 8 September.
