Domestic Resistance: Rasa & Asa
During the COVID-19 lockdown in Malaysia, migrant Indonesian domestic workers initiated the documentary project Rasa & Asa (Flavors, Feelings, & Hopes) which celebrates their solidarity and creativity. Alongside recordings of online events, most of the footage in this film was shot by the Indonesian Migrant Domestic Workers Association (PERTIMIG) members themselves on their smartphones.
The film’s directors Okui Lala and Nasrikah continue their collaboration with PERTIMIG on Rasa & Asa: Makan Bersama (Eating Together), a series of commensal dining events bringing women corporate leaders, employers, and domestic workers together on the same table to discuss issues affecting women workers.
The event begins with a screening of Rasa & Asa, followed by a Q&A session with directors Okui Lala and Nasrikah, joined by Choi Hyeyoung from Working Women Academy, Korea. After a short break, the program continues with Domestic Resistance: Nohdong/노동 Nongkrong.
