Ulrike and Eamon Compliant

Blast Theory is renowned internationally as a cutting-edge artist group that uses interactive media to create groundbreaking new forms of performance and interactive art that mix internet audiences, live performance and digital broadcasting. Led by Matt Adams, Ju Row Farr and Nick Tandavanitj, the group’s work explores interactivity and the social and political aspects of technology. It confronts a media-saturated world in which popular culture reigns supreme, using performance, installation, video, mobile and online technologies to ask questions about the ideologies present in the information that envelops us.

Ulrike and Eamon Compliant is a work by Blast Theory, which premiered at the Vernissage of the Venice Biennale 2009. It is a site specific-work based on the lives of Ulrike Meinhof (Red Army Faction) and Eamon Collins (Irish Republican Army). The work invites the audience to assume the character of either Ulrike or Eamon and take a journey through the city receiving and making phone calls as the character they have chosen. A work that combines documentary elements with interactive narrative, it engages its audience in a highly personalized way, asking the audience to consider –and perhaps question–their own ethics and beliefs.
