This is the video documentation of an excerpt of Superwoman: Empire of Care by Eisa Jocson, screened at K-POP Square Media as part of the at K-POP Square program of the 11th Seoul Mediacity Biennale, held from from 15 to 20 September 2021.
at K-POP Square was a special project within the Biennale’s Network, featuring excerpts from participating artists’ works on the large-scale screen located at K-POP Square in front of COEX Artium in Samseong-dong, Gangnam. Screenings took place twice every hour on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Participating artists included TASTEHOUSE × WORKS, Pauline Boudry / Renate Lorenz, Eisa Jocson, Yuri Pattison, and C-U-T, each producing or editing 90-second videos tailored to the project’s aims and the characteristics of the media platform. Eisa Jocson formed the all-female “”Philippine Superwoman Band,”” adopting the pop song repertoire, formats, and performance gestures commonly used by Filipino musicians working abroad. Through this, she gave concrete form to the realities of Filipino migrant workers engaged in dual labor across various global service industries.
