For the Silk Road Project, Jeoung crossed the Eurasian continent from Seoul to London. While visiting specific sites along the Silk Road, the artist communicated and collaborated with the community members of each region on the route. Before embarking on the journey, he had collected and reprocessed discarded banners to bring with him and give to the people of regional communities that he encountered during his travels. Then, he later revisited the regions and collected vestiges of how the people were using the banners. This project was initiated from a query into the methods of art production and consumption (creation and appreciation). In the first Silk Road Project, Jeoung embarked from Seoul, visited Xinjiang Uygur of China first, reached the city of Rahore in Punjab, Pakistan via the Karakoram Highway, crossed northern India and arrived in Katmandu, Nepal. During this journey, he gave out approximately 2,000 discarded banners to 22 regional communities; in the second project, he discovered that 70 percent of the banners were still being used. In this Biennale, the artist presents a twodimensional drawing of a map illustrating his performative project along with photographs that he took during his journey.
