Based on the concept that all layers are absolutely equal, this work applies an editing methodology in which three sequences are shown per second. The first 30 seconds of this one-minute video consists of 90 sequences created using Letraset printing methods—black on white backgrounds and white on black backgrounds. This creates a flickering afterimage effect, transforming the act of seeing into a product of memory, fiction, or something already past and therefore revealing the function of “perception” about momentary objects. Since the afterimage effect manifests thoughts about memory-retention rather than physical reality, it also triggers cognitive processes that either evoke different thoughts or induce forgetting.
