Dragon Boat of Wisdom is an homage to the “individuals” to whom Wol Sik KIM and Seems Like Community have related over the past ten years through their diverse engaging practices within the communities. The collaboration with the elderlies who collected discarded paper was an attempt to interpret the aged people’s emotions and senses and transform them into artistic and cultural value. Afterwards, this project had been expanded to the works of Snack Bar Buddha, Market Buddha, and Jidongsin. The discarded papers donated by the 108 paper collecting elderlies, 640 sales people in the market, 10 mediums, and 109 Nepalese created the icons, and the icons contain the wishes of all of these people. The artist collective deconstructed these icons and reconstructed them in the form of a “Dragon Boat” that looks like a rolling cart. Dragon Boat of Wisdom is a representation that reflects the desires, selfishness, and pride that have dominated “individual” lives. The work is also a consideration of these issues and an experiment to create alternatives. It is not only a formal presentation of the human will for a down-to-earth life for the future, but also a memorial of the “individuals” who have made their living under harsh circumstances.
