Appropriating the opening scene of Nicolas Roeg’s 1976 film The Man Who Fell to Earth, this work creates dramatic moments where objects suddenly fall and explode. These events are programmed to occur roughly every 7,200 seconds—about every two hours —but their deeply random nature means that it might not happen for an entire day, or perhaps even several days. Some visitors might witness this spectacular moment, while others may never see it. Intriguingly, when fewer viewers experience the physical explosion, the artwork exists more concretely in their imagination than in the actual gallery space.
