Between the pillars in the middle of the passageway at Dongdaemun Stadium subway station, there are three structures made of subway seats. There are also three video monitors, each displaying different moving images including scenes from the subway platform and passageway. The monitors let us know that a camera is hidden somewhere, watching us. Installed on the pillars are light boxes exhibiting photographs that were taken in the neighborhood around the station. The moving images broadcast on the video monitors contrast with these photos: the latter originate from above ground, representing scenes from memory and the past, while the video scenes of the underground represent progress and the present. This work may suggest that the city of our future will be underground.
