Untitled(TV Fishbowl) is an early work by Park Hyun-ki, widely considered the pioneer of Korean minimal video art. This work serves as the first conceptual video sculpture of Park using video and television. Video footage of a fish swimming in a fish tank is played on a monitor deluding viewers into thinking that the television is actually a real fish tank filled with water. This work was first introduced through the 5th Daegu Contemporary Art Festival Artists Seeking Tomorrow. Since the end of 1960s, television ownership rapidly increased, as televisions became essential domestic devices and sources of popular entertainment media. Television sales were also surged in times of nation-wide events such as the World Cup, Olympic Games and Inter-Korea Summits. Park’s work embodies a critical perspective toward television as well as collective stereotypes of social conditioning by mass-media.
