Ahn Kyuchul’s conceptual practice observes the relationship between objects and language in daily life, connecting such modes of thinking to artistic experiences. In the 1980s, he worked as a journalist for Monthly Art Magazine before joining the artist collective Reality and Utterance which played a central role in Korea’s Minjung art movement, and worked as an educator beginning in the late 1990s. His major exhibitions include Forty-nine Rooms (Rodin Gallery, 2004) and Invisible Land of Love (National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Seoul, 2015), and he participated in the 2nd SEOUL in MEDIA FOOD, CLOTHING, SHELTER (1998).
