Il-gon Song gained recognition for his talent with the short films The Dream of the Clowns (1997) and Liver and Potato (1998), both made in Poland. In 1999, he won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival for his short The Picnic, and his feature film debut Flower Island won the New Currents Award at the 2001 Busan International Film Festival and the Young Critics Award at the Venice Film Festival. He later directed Spider Forest (2004), The Feather (Git) (2005), and The Magicians (2005). Dance of Time is her first full-length documentary.
