Born in 1956 in Hadong, Gyeongsangnam-do, Park Buldong studied Western painting at Hongik University. Feeling disillusioned with abstract art education, he became a member of the art group “Reality and Statement,” which was focused on socially engaged art, and began his active participation. In 1985, Park Buldong organized and exhibited in the Korean Art, The Power of the 20s exhibition, but it was shut down by the police, marking the first exhibition in Korean art history forcibly closed by state power. He also made outstanding achievements in conceptual photography through photomontage works and participated in numerous group exhibitions both domestically and internationally, including the Havana Biennale in Cuba and the Gwangju Biennale. He held 11 solo exhibitions until 2012.
