This event featured lectures by Alain Badiou and Cécile Winter as part of Universality In Art and ‘East Asia’, the first pre-Biennale of the SeMA Biennale Mediacity Seoul 2014. Universality In Art and ‘East Asia’ consisted of three lectures exploring how locally rooted artistic practices can be connected to universal values in art.
Alain Badiou, one of the most influential philosophers of our time, shared his views on the universality and potential of art, as well as the role of art today and its future direction. Cécile Winter gave a lecture on the political colonialism we face today and its consequences. Seo Yong soon, who has consistently introduced Badiou’s theories in Korea, moderated the session to guide the audience’s understanding.
