Hansol Ryu

The performative practice of Hansol Ryu spans video, drawing, and installation, and is largely inspired by the forms, contents, and traditions of the gore genre in cinema and comics. In her videos Ryu often combines makeshift, exaggerated special effects with commonplace objects to “mutilate” her own body, channeling and translating the inherent absurdity of our social and gender norms into grotesque humor. Ryu held her first solo exhibition at Sungkyun Gallery, Seoul, in 2018, before obtaining her postgraduate degree in Fine Art from Sungkyunkwan University in 2019. Other exhibitions include Pack: Adventure! Double Cross at Post Territory Ujeongguk, Seoul, in 2019 and the 4th Factory Art Festival at Culture Station Seoul 284 in 2014.
