The Bodyscape series by Lee Kun-Yong connects performances and conceptual action paintings that assert the living body as a visible trace left behind by the artist’s movement. Lee uses the body as his primary medium by recording traces of his movement in simple ways and systematically realizing performances that can be easily reproduced by anyone with access to the manual. As an artist whose archives have played a critical role in his works from the start, the medium of photography serves as an extension of performance, one that continues to operate as an essential source in verifying his earlier works. In media_city seoul 2000 city: between 0 and 1, the artist participated in the Subway Project: Public Furniture with his installation Working Men and Women, which depicts the repetitive everyday movements of people seen during their daily urban commutes.
