If you look up at the ceiling while ascending the escalator at Gwanghwamun subway station, you will see a square frame on the ceiling of the second floor exit. There used to be lights within the frame. I took them down and replaced them with a circular monitor. When you see the monitor from the subway platform, it appears to be an oval. However, when standing on the ascending escalator, the shape changes by degrees until it appears to be circular. This monitor that creates an optical illusion displays various scenes of the city sky and insects for three minutes and eleven seconds. This may induce a temporary perception that the ceiling of the waiting area has a glass skylight, giving the impression that you are seeing the actual outdoor scenery. I made this work for passengers who are monotonously ascending the escalator. I hope they can enjoy the ever-changing sky and the liveliness of the insects during their brief period riding the escalator so that their boredom will disappear.
