Li Liao
Li Liao is a Shenzhen-based multimedia artist. Fascinated by the coincidence of absurdity and convention in daily situations, Li often uses his body, family, and personal experiences as foundations for his practice. His performances and actions—some of which are durational—as well as his videos and installations blur the boundaries between ambition and desire, perception and reality, public and private, while also gauging how people value things in capitalistic society. Li earned his BFA from the Hubei Institute of Fine Arts in 2005. In 2013, Li was a finalist for the Emerging Artist Award of the inaugural Hugo Boss Asia Art. His work has been featured in group exhibitions at institutions including the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing (2013); the National Museum of 21st Century Art, Rome (2014); Kadist, Paris (2016); the Guangdong Times Museum, Guangzhou (2017); and the Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt (2019), as well as in the 2015 New Museum Triennial, Surround Audience.
