이탈리아에서 태어난 안나 마리아 마이올리노는 브라질에서 가장 영향력 있는 현대미술가들 중 한 명으로 꼽힙니다. 1942년 이탈리아에서 태어난 작가는 창의적이면서 파괴적인 과정을 통해 표현해왔다. 드로잉, 판화, 시, 영화, 퍼포먼스, 설치 및 조각 등 여러 매체를 아우르는 작품들은 주로 주체성과 자아성찰에 관한 주제를 다룹니다. 2005년 브라질에서의 첫 회고전이 상파울루 피나코테카미술관에서 개최된 이래, 상파울루 인스티튜토토미오타케(2002), 부에노스아이레스 라틴아메리카미술관(2002), 미국 사바나예술대학교 미술관(2020), 영국 런던 화이트채플 갤러리(2019) 등에서 주요한 회고전이 개최되었습니다. 2022년 영국 런던예술대학교에서 명예박사 학위를 수여 받았으며, 그의 작품은 이탈리아 로마 국립현대미술관, 피나코테카미술관, 스페인 마드리드 레이나소피아국립미술관, 미국 뉴욕 현대미술관 등 전 세계 유수 기관 및 여러 개인 컬렉터에게 소장되어 있습니다.

Anna Maria Maiolino is one of the most significant artists working in Brazil today. Born in 1942 in Italy, Maiolino’s practice expresses a concern with creative and destructive processes. Working across a wide range of disciplines and mediums—spanning drawing, printmaking, poetry, film, performance,
installation, and sculpture—Maiolino relentlessly explores notions of subjectivity and self. In 2005, the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo held the artist's first retrospective exhibition in Brazil, and in recent years she has had several major retrospectives, including at Instituto Tomie Ohtake, São Paulo (2022); MALBA, Buenos Aires (2022); SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah (2020);
and Whitechapel Gallery, London (2019). In 2022, the artist was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of London. Maiolino's work integrates several important public and private collections around the world, including the National Gallery of Modern Art, Rome; Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo; Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; and Museum of
Modern Art, New York.
