Nam June Paik, with another artist Park Hyun-ki were a few of the prominent figures who lavished great support and patronage for the syndication of media_city seoul in 2000 as well as the 1st SEOUL in MEDIA in 1996. Paying attention to the simultaneity of new media, especially video in particular, this work by Nam June Paik relentlessly attempted to push the communicative potential of art to a point of genuine communication and reasoning, thus expressing the present-day dynamics blended with loving memories of Korea. Centered by 15 videos, objects related Korea’s everyday life including Gama (traditional transport), Hanbok (traditional clothing), street vendor’s unbrella, refrigerator, hat and fan are installed around. This may have been a means of celebrating media_city seoul—which was presented on the largest scale of the history—through his own language, while also manifesting an intention of revealing the true face of Korea through this special occasion, when all the masters of Western modern art are gathered together.
