moving image
Throughout the history of SMB, moving images have been introduced in various ways that maintain the material and technical conditions of their medium – including video, video installation, 16mm and 35mm film, and cinema – while also considering site-specific exhibition contexts and interactive viewing conditions. Initially, SEOUL in MEDIA (the predecessor and origin of SMB) questioned the public role of moving images that arose from the new media landscape of rapidly changing urban environments and framed the time period of its first exhibition in 1996 as a transitional moment toward a new era of moving images. Today, SMB actively engages with the non-linearity of moving images that embody both temporal continuity and simultaneity, as well as producing and accumulating moving image materials as means of documenting various SMB activities such as events, exhibitions, and programs.
