Space and Perception 1989 is a series of small sphere forms of photo sculptures. These tiny figures, each only 10 cm in diameter, reproduce vast natural landscapes—including forests and rocks found in mountains and valleys, tiny houses and yards seen from the perspective of a high mountain ridge, layers of mountain ridges towering over the same valley, and clouds floating above the sky—as if the whole universe is embodied within these beads. Resembling the form of Space and Perception 1987, this work also activates phenomena of perception as they relate to the images registered by our pupils. The small size of these sculptures contrasts with the vastness of their landscapes, allowing viewers to appreciate the work through various dimensions of scale, distance, and perspective.
