Space and Perception 1990-3 comprises three hemispherical surfaces, each incised in intaglio on one side of a hexahedral form, then wrapped in three photographs of scenes from the banks of the Han River. This is Lee’s only extant work that is constructed from three hemispherical shapes in order to sequentially convey similar landscapes, which are trisected into the surface of the river, the horizon line separating water and land, and the sky. Visible in the photographic distance is the 63 Building, which makes it possible to approximate the location of where these photos were taken—since the building’s facade appears slightly different in each surface, the viewer is able to perceive minute changes in the specific locations.
